I'm supposed to pick three movies I really love that in my opinion are not well known and tell you about them.

Here we go:

1. The Philadelphia Story (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0032904/) --Katharine Hepburn (Tracy Lord), Cary Grant (C.K. Dexter Haven), James Stewart (Mike Connor)
Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant play a divorced couple. She comes from a wealthy family and is marrying for a second time. Jimmy Stewart, with Grant in tow, plays the reporter who comes to cover the wedding. Besides being a smart comedy, it has some of the best scenes. The one where Stewart shows up drunk at Grant's house is one of my favorites.
Favorite lines:
Tracy: [about Dexter's wedding gift] It was beautiful - and sweet, Dex.
Dexter: Yes, yes. She was quite a boat, the True Love, wasn't she?
Tracy: Was, and is.
Dexter: My, she was yar.
Tracy: She was yar alright. I wasn't, was I?
Dexter: Not very. Oh, you were good at the bright work, though.
Tracy: I made her shine. Where is she now?
Dexter: I'm gonna sell it to Ruth Watrous.
Tracy: You're gonna sell the True Love, for money?
Dexter: Sure...Oh well, what's it matter? When you're through with a boat, you're through. Besides, it was only comfortable for two people. Unless you want her.
Tracy: No, no I don't want her.
Dexter: Well, I'm designing another one anyway, along more practical lines.
Tracy: What'll you call her?
Dexter: I thought the True Love II. What do you think?
Tracy: Dexter, if you call any boat that, I promise you I'll blow you and it out of the water. I'll tell you what you can call her if you like...in fond remembrance of me, the Easy Virtue.
Dexter: Shut up, Red! I can't have you thinking things like that about yourself.
Tracy: Well, what am I supposed to think when I - Oh I don't know. I don't know anything any more.
Dexter: That sounds very hopeful, Red. That sounds just fine.

Fun Fact: On Dawson's Creek, Pacey named his boat True Love after the boat in this movie.

2. Indian Summer (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107212/) Kevin Pollak (Brad Berman), Diane Lane (Beth Warden), VIncent Spano (Matthew Berman), Elizabeth Perkins (Jennifer Morton), Bill Paxton (Jack Belston), Kimberly Williams Paisley (Gwen Daughtry) Alan Arkin (Unca Lou)

Unca Lou Handler runs a co-ed summer camp. He decides to retire and invites the campers from what he considers his "golden years" for a reunion. They come, but bring with them real life problems that surface when they are all together. I love this movie because (1) I went to summer camp and the flashback scenes seem very real to me, and (2) I like that there is only one "bad" guy in the film (and he isn't really a bad guy, just an idiot). They all seem like decent people.

Favorite Lines:
Jack: Why'd you come up?

Beth: Because I wanted to be sad.....now I'm sad.

(This may seem like a strange choice, but this is a sentiment that I've felt before. I just identified with it.)

Fun Fact: There really is a Camp Tamakwa in Canada.

3. Wait Until Dark (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062467/)--Audrey Hepburn (Susy Hendrix), Alan Arkin (Roat), Richard Crenne (Mike Talman)

Susy Hendrix was recently blinded by an accident and she is learning to adjust to her new condition. Her husband returns from a business trip with a doll that he was holding for another traveler. What he doesn't know is that the doll is filled with drugs. When her husband goes out for the day, Susy is left home alone and the drug smugglers want their drugs back. What follows is a cat and mouse game of epic proportions. This is one of the most suspensful movies I've ever seen.

Favorite Lines:
Susy Hendrix: Who's there?

Fun Fact: Audrey Hepburn was her own costume designer in this movie.

I don't know what in the hell is wrong with LJ, but I can't delete the other 2 cut stuff.

Ooh, I always meant to see "Wait Until Dark"! I love Audrey Hepburn and that looks like such a good one. I love "The Philadelphia Story" too. They don't make 'em like they used to.

Wait Until Dark is awesome. You should definitely see it.

Hee, we have an old renovated theater in town that shows classic movies sometimes. When I was a kid we went to see "Wait Until Dark" and when you think the bad dude is dead but then he jumps back up to attack her I practically jumped into my brother's lap and didn't let go of him until the end of the movie.

True story--when I was in high school there was a group of us that went to different houses for different activities each week. One night we all went to my house for movie night. I showed them Wait Until Dark. Well, my parents were upstairs and my dad was nervous cause a bunch of high school boys and girls were downstairs and being very quiet. He was sure we were up to something. Right about the time he convinced my mom to go down and check on us, that part happened and of course, we all screamed. He was relieved to know that we really were watching the movie! That may have been one of the most terrifying scenes ever!
